NEWLY AMENDED EMPLOYMENT EQUITY ACT – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law the Employment Equity Amendment Bill of 2020, amending the Employment Equity Act with new measures to promote diversity and equality in the workplace. The Bill is set for implementation on 01 SEPTEMBER 2023 and seeks to advance transformation in South Africa by setting specific EE targets for economic sectors and geographical regions and requiring enterprises to develop transformation plans.

 

The main objectives of amendments are to empower the Employment and Labour Minister to regulate sector specific EE targets and to regulate compliance criteria to issue EE Compliance Certificate in terms of Section 53 of the EE Act.

 

Final sectoral targets will be gazetted together with the EE regulations until such time targets they will remain drafts. Continue to follow our CSG pages as we shall communicate all draft sectoral targets on our platforms.

 

CSG in consultation with CEO’s, Directors, HR Manager and EE Committees will map out EE Plans in line with Minister EE Sectoral targets.
