The Specialist Artisan Turbine Fitter forms part of a centralized maintenance team providing a maintenance service on high-speed rotating equipment for various BUs throughout Sasolburg Operations. This includes running plant maintenance up to full integrity inspections and overhauls.

Formal Education:
- Grade 12 with maths and science or N3 with maths, science, and language – NQF Level 4.
- Qualified as an Artisan Fitter NQF4 (Sasol or Olifantsfontein) (MUST) – NQF Level 4.
- Valid Code 8 driver’s license (MUST).
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience maintaining high-speed rotating equipment (turbines/compressors).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Minimum 10 years of experience on maintenance of rotating equipment, after obtaining an NQF4 or Red Seal artisan certification, which specifically includes experience on:
- Steam Turbines
- Centrifugal compressors (barrel & spilt face type)
- Integrally Geared Compressors
- Reciprocating compressors
- Screw compressors
- Centrifugal pumps (single and multi-stage)
- Positive displacement pumps
- Installation of mechanical and Dry Gas Seal
- Laser alignment
- Fault finding on auxiliary systems
- Knowledge of ISO 18000 safety standards / similar safety systems
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 quality management system
Operational, Financial, and Technical Results:
- Perform unsupervised maintenance on positive displacement compressors (Recip &
Screw). - Perform unsupervised maintenance on a variety of high speed rotating equipment.
- Fault finding on rotating equipment and auxiliary systems (e.g., drip feeders, stuffing
box/valve leakage detection, rotating equipment and auxiliary systems (e.g., control
systems of a turbine). - Be conversant with technical parameters governing compressor maintenance, including
crank case overhaul and alignment, web deflection, conrod, crosshead installation/line
outs, wear part replacement/inspections, mechanical seal installation, bearing clearances,
gaskets, alignment, and protection devices. - Complete overhaul of screw compressors.
- Understanding of refrigeration plant/process to facilitate compressor faultfinding.
- Work in accordance with quality plans and work procedures.
- Work according to CMMS SAP work orders (or similar)
